Our Board
President - Tony “Poppa Tone” Burns
Tony Burns, President and one of the original founders of SMRF, brings a deep well of experience and passion to the organisation. With nearly 50 years in the NSW Public Service, Tony currently serves as a Senior Environmental Health Officer with NSW Health in Wagga. His involvement in charity work stretches back over 25 years, most notably with Telstra Child Flight, where he served as both President of the Board and Acting CEO. When Child Flight ceased operations, Tony was instrumental in creating SMRF to continue providing essential medical support to families—particularly for equipment not covered by government funding.
Tony’s motivation stems from a clear vision to “bridge the gap” for families in need and to help establish SMRF as a recognized and sustainable community charity. His goal is to strengthen SMRF’s reputation within the community and pursue ongoing government support. Through his leadership, Tony provides stability, direction, and a deep-rooted dedication to the organisation’s mission. Away from his professional and volunteer roles, Tony finds joy in spending time with his family and grandchildren, living by the personal philosophy that family always comes first. His steady presence continues to shape SMRF’s growth and outreach.

Looking ahead, Raam envisions SMRF becoming more visible in the community, expanding its reach and strengthening public engagement. He is particularly passionate about supporting SMRF’s shows and fundraising events, helping bring them to life through his logistical expertise. Outside of his board role, Raam enjoys movies, stand-up comedy, gym workouts, and catching up with friends.
